How to set ANY filter for Smart Mailboxes
Click on the + to add a new smart Mailbox (sMB) and then configure it with double-click on the new named sMB.

I can set up a Smart Mailbox but my issue is the setting on conditions.
There seems to be a problem in specifying conditions using the modifier ANY.
I want to set up a Smart Mailbox to track all emails from and to a particular set of people. I can set the condition to 'From' and it works. But if I add the condition 'Contains' I get nothing or incomplete list of emails.
This appears to be another problem with Apple Mail in limiting the number of conditions that can be specified or the mix of conditions that can be specified.
I would be grateful for any suggestions.
I know, that if I use my ###@mac.com address I can only send to about 99 recipients. If you use a iCloud address you must consider to limit the number of recipients or send in many "rates".
If you use another ISP for sending mail, you can try to make a group in your Contact.app and define the group as condition of ANY (Member of Group ...)

Sorry but I can not understand how your reply relates to my question.
If I have understood your problem, you cannot define the level 2 of your smart Mailbox.
Level 1 may be ... from contains @mac.com
Level 2 may be ... sender is member of group
You can first define the group of people that shall be related to this sMB and then select in Level 2 the name of the group. See Screenshot. I hope this helps.
Thanks - I have solved it.
When I was using 'Any recipient' 'contains' expression, I was using the persons' email address and not their actual name. Once I used their name then it worked.
I can't find anything in Apple Mail Help showing the correct variable in this expression.
